SAVING THEIR BEST ‘TILL LAST
MID SUSSEX SCHOOLBOY MOTOCROSS CLUB
SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP RND 12 - SHERMANBURY
Mid Sussex Schoolboy Motocross Club held the final round of their Summer Championship at Shermanbury. The track team worked endlessly to give riders a fantastic riding venue and a big thank you goes out to all involved for all their hard work over the Season.
Jake Cappa was able to enjoy his last Auto race after claiming the Championship at the last round. He finished his season in style claiming all 3 race wins. The competition made for some exciting racing across the group with these youngsters claiming valuable championship points. A dramatic 1st race with the top contenders falling consecutively on the last lap finally ended with Mackenzie Green coming through for 2nd and Ashley-John Matthews 3rd. Green appeared to pull bit of a lead in Race 2 but had to be content with another 2nd with Oliver Wickers claiming the 3rd spot. Luke Richardson managed a holeshot in race 3 but it was Green and Wickers that came through to finish behind Cappa.
The Junior group was a spectacle to watch with many of the riders achieving a Seasons Personal Best result. Jamie Collins was out the gate to holeshot in Race 1 with Jack Driver finding form to put him in with the leading pack. A rare error from Owen Jenner gave Miles Woodman the opportunity to show the rest of the field the way and storm home to take his first race win with Collins claiming 2nd and a well deserved P.B for Max Whittley taking 3rd. Collins stayed seated in Race 2 giving him a taste of victory, beating his previous performance and giving him his first race win with Jenner coming through for 2nd. A Seasons best performance, securing himself a 3rd place finish was Archie Kemp. Woodman put in another outstanding win to claim the overall in race 3 with Jenner 2nd and Collins 3rd.
With the Championship already decided in the SW85’s, Billy Wilson could do no more than take the glory of yet another maximum race result. Due to injury halfway through the year, Wilson could not improve on a 3rd place finish despite a flawless season. Jake Collins opened with the holeshot in race 1 but an error allowed Jake Swann through whilst Wilson played with the pack and eased himself into 2nd. Fynn O’Brien looked comfortable in 3rd whilst being chased down by Leon Ongley but with championship points to play for, Wilson came up for the win with Swann pushed back to 2nd and Collins just scraping 3rd. Swann and Ongley both made their getaway in Race 2 challenging for the front spot but it was Swann taking 2nd spot with Collins 3rd. A change about of positions in Race 3 gave Collins 2nd and Swann 3rd.
After a Seasons sensational riding in the BW85’s, Sam Ongley and Elliott Phillips showed each other the same respect on the track as off. With Ongley having claimed the Championship, Phillips finished his Season on a racing high by taking a maximum 3 race wins with Ongley in 2nd. The battling still continued with Ollie Rippon and Luke Cappa for the 3rd spot but after some fantastic racing manoeuvres and some high drama, Cappa came through to claim all 3 3rd place finishes. Another high achiever of the weekend was Scott Conway finishing 4th in Race 2.
With Aaron Ongley already champion of the Youth Open group it left Matt Dowse and Nathan Turner-Whittle to decide their placings on the podium. Dowse stormed to the front in Race 1 with Ongley in hot pursuit. Once Ongley claimed his top spot, it was left down to Dowse, Connor Mitchell and Nathan Turner-Whittle to battle it out. Dowse came out triumphant in 2nd with Mitchell taking 3rd. Mitchell put in one of his holeshots in Race 2 ahead of Ongley and Connor Aldous. Mitchell put in an exceptional performance to hold off Ongley until just before the last lap flag where Ongley made his move up the inside to claim top spot. Mitchell was left to settle for 2nd whilst Dowse claimed 3rd spot. Race 3 saw Ongley take the holeshot looking like he had secured another win when Nathan Turner-Whittle pulled his way through to challenge for the lead but Ongley was able to maintain his place with Turner-Whittle 2nd and Dowse in 3rd.
With the championship still to fight for in the Adult A it made for some interesting battles with Harvey MacDonald and Brad Clements. In Race 1 Darryl Maxwell stormed from the gate to claim the holeshot proving himself uncatchable claiming his first win of the day. MacDonald took 2nd with Clements in 3rd. A turn of fortune in Race 2 with Maxwell again claiming victory with Clements 2nd and MacDonald 3rd. Maxwell got out of the gate for another holeshot in Race 3 but stooled coming out of the 1st corner. Avoiding collision, both Clements and MacDonald made their getaway both hoping to take the chequered flag, but Maxwell not one to give up, stormed up through to clinch the win with Clements and MacDonald left to settle for 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Visitor Adam Cunningham proved unstoppable in the Adult B group claiming the maximum 3 race wins. Paul Maxwell made his getaway from the start on race 1 but was unable to hold off the racing pack. Sam Scrace came through for 2nd with brother Jake in 3rd. Sam Scrace claimed 2nd in Race 2 ahead of Ashley Hewitt 3rd. Elliott Purvis took the holeshot in Race 3 but with Cunningham on form he could only manage a 3rd place finish behind Jake Scrace in 2nd. Congratulations Paul Roeton on a long awaited top 6 overall placing.
